My time in Italy has come to an end; tomorrow I’ll be on the road to Dresden with my host family. Our week together has been beautiful; the weather has been perfect, with only one day of rain. Lake Garda is a picture perfect location and the water body is indeed quite large, we certainly didn’t cover all there is to see.
I thought I would share some of the photos I posted to Instagram during the week, hopefully these images will provide an insight into our activities by the water and travels in Verona and Milan, where we drove and spent the day wandering around.
This was my first view of Lake Garda. It was our first full day in Italy, and it looked like rain. Thankfully the clouds blew away and we continued on to Verona to spend the day.
The Arena of Verona is an iconic site within the city and is a very similar to the Colosseum in Rome, although a smaller version. Verona, of course is most famous for being the city in which Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” takes place. After battling the crowds of tourists, I eventually caught a glimpse of the renowned balcony.
Once the weather had brightened up, we made our way to the water. Our whole day was then spent paddling and swimming in the turquoise lake. My host sister and I gathered up the courage to ask a stranger if he would lend us his stand-up-paddling board, as we had been eyeing the sport for a while and were eager to give it a try. Turns out it actually wasn’t too difficult and after an hour of practice we soon got the hang of it.
Our second day trip was to Milan, and city famous for its world fashion events. This photo is of the grand central shopping passage opposite the Milan Dome. The passage houses stores from some of the most expensive luxury brands. It’s a stunning piece of architecture, and looked dazzling in the sunlight.
For a whole day we enjoyed the sunshine by renting a motor boat and sailed around Lake Garda, occasionally anchoring to go swimming in the crystal clear lake. This may have been my favourite day of the week. There’s something about being out on the water which I can’t get enough of. From the water, the view of many quaint villages surrounding the coastline was superb.
Taken on our last day, while visiting the neighbouring Lake Iseo. The town of Iseo is located right on the waterfront and was so very pretty. It made me reminisce about my visit to Venice. Although it only took around 30 minutes to explore the whole town on foot, I’m so glad we took the opportunity to drive there.
